GlycoGuard is an activated form of B. infantis and L. plantarum, beneficial bacteria that work in combination with mare's milk to stabilize the newborn foal gut. It is the only probiotic clinically proven to effectively colonize and stabilize the foal's large intestine.

GlycoGuard is a direct-fed microbial probiotic that is especially effective in promoting gut health in nursing foals. The formula is comprised of an activated preparation of Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis and Lactobacillus plantarum.

B. infantis and L. plantarum work together in a three-part action:

  1. Consume complex carbohydrates found in equine milk
  2. Produce short chain fatty acids which help provide extra energy for the foal
  3. Support a healthy gut epithelium, the layer of cells that form the surface lining of the small and large intestine in the gastrointestinal tract

One serving is 10cc (100.5g). Turn dial to appropriate marking. Insert into foal's mouth and depress plunger until it stops. Feed 10cc orally at birth and every 12 hours for 4 consecutive days for a total of 8 feedings.

GlycoGuard improves gut barrier function by increasing beneficial intestinal short-chain fatty acid production in nursing foals.

Colonizes the Intestine
Beneficial bacteria in GlycoGuard rapidly colonize and stabilize the nursing foals's gut, resulting in better intestinal health during the vulnerable first few weeks of life.

Unlocks Nutrients in Mare's Milk
The bacteria in GlycoGuard break down the complex carbohydrates found in mare's milk that are difficult to digest, allowing foals to receive the maximum nutrition.

Releases Short-Chain Fatty Acids
Bacterial metabolism promotes increased intestinal short-chain fatty acid production necessary for gut health in nursing foals.

Veterinary recommended. Clinically proven.

It's The BUM Diggity!!!

Wow is all I can say. I ordered one tube to give to a foal at birth and she did not scour at all. This mares foals have always had a terrible time, sometimes for months and nothing has ever worked. Another foal that was NOT given Glycoguard at birth scoured at two weeks of age. We tried all the usual remedies without success. Called Glycoguard and talked with them. They stated the even at two weeks their product would help. Long story short, had some overnighted and the foal was diarrhea free in 3 days. Next year every foal in my barn will be started on it at birth. As an experienced foal diarrhea expert, I cannot say enough good things about this product. Use it! You won't be disappointed.

the silver bullet

I am so very impressed with this product. I can't imagine going through a breeding/foaling season without it. Simply put, it outpopulates all the bad bacteria that foals pick up in their gut and replaces it with good stuff. I'm thinking next year, I might try giving every other foal a dose or two at a day old, to see if it really does stop the foal heat, which it appears to do. The only draw back is the price but for the valuable animals I'm dealing with, it has to be paid. My other input is that it took almost 10 days to get my order delivered. If I was in the face of an outbreak that needed the product, 10 days would have meant death to a few foals. I live 20 minutes from where the operation headquarters are for GlycoGuard. It would seem there should be a faster/better way to fill an order.... Just an insight you might not be aware of. Thanks, Ellen
