What is GlycoGuard?
GlycoGuard is a direct-fed microbial probiotic that may be especially effective in promoting gut health in nursing foals. The formula is comprised of an activated preparation of Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis and Lactobacillus plantarum.
I thought bacteria were bad. Why would I feed bacteria to my foal?
Actually, not all bacteria are bad. There are thousands of distinct species of bacteria, protozoa, yeasts, and fungi in the equine gastrointestinal tract and the majority of these are beneficial. They exist in a symbiotic relationship with the horse, helping it to maximize the extraction and absorption of nutrients from its food.
How does GlycoGuard help maintain digestive health?
Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis (B. infantis) is unique among gut bacteria in its immense capacity to digest and consume complex oligosaccharides like those found in equine milk.
B. infantis and L. plantarum are believed to work together in a three-part action:
1. Consume complex carbohydrates found in equine milk
2. Produce short chain fatty acids which help provide extra energy for the foal
3. Support a healthy gut epithelium, the layer of cells that form the surface lining of the small and large intestine in the gastrointestinal tract
When should GlycoGuard be fed to a nursing foal?
The foal should be fed 10cc orally at birth and every 12 hours for the first four days (8 feedings total).
Is GlycoGuard a drug or medicine?

Are there special instructions on how to administer GlycoGuard?
